The Junius wall of sound is even more mountainous as a 5 piece. Junius is currently working on their highly anticipated fourth full-length album. Lead singer/songwriter Joseph E. Martinez comments "This album has been the hardest one to write, since I have no concept to follow, just a feel that i'm chasing after. I've given myself some boundaries as well, only guitar effects, no synth and no lyrical concept, also the arrangement and parts have to be played all live. no stacking of impossible to play guitar parts, which should help the recording process lean towards a more sonically clear recording." EDYAKARAN (IT) Il progetto artistico “Edyakaran” vuole raccontare il tempo evolutivo umano. La nostra musica vuol essere una celebrazione dell'evoluzione umana e con essa esploriamo e concettualizziamo ciò che era, ciò che è e come è divenuto. Ogni nostra performance (dal vivo o in studio) è atta a liberare il racconto del tempo racchiuso nelle note. Il nostro primo album si intitola “Pantheon” è stato pubblicato a marzo 2025 da My Kingdom Music ed è composto da 10 tracce per un totale di 45 minuti. Ci sono 5 tracce principali, ognuna di esse anticipata da un interludio (chiamato Passo). L'opera narra di come le interazioni primordiali (Amore, Caccia, Guerra, Arte) si siano trasformate da semplici istinti ad emozioni, divenendo in alcuni casi, autodistruttive. Si parte dalla presa di coscienza dell'Uomo (Alfa) che passo dopo passo si evolve da semplice animale, dominato da istinti, ad essere umano invece legato ad emozioni pure, quasi spirituali a completamento di ciò che è (Omega). Curriculum musicale dei membri: Lorenzo Rinaldi, Francesco Paparella e Antonio Ricco provengono dal gruppo “In Tormentata Quiete” (genere progressive avant-garde metal) con il quale hanno pubblicato 5 album, 1 EP e 1 singolo. The band was discovered in late December 2009 by Digby Pearson, the owner of record label Earache, in a mix tape posted on the Invisible Oranges blog. After hearing the song "Born Stupid" on the compilation, Pearson searched out and downloaded Wormrot's full-length debut, Abuse, from file-sharing site MediaFire. Pearson was impressed with the album's quality and the band's "ambition, hard work ethic, and willingness to put Singapore and Asian grindcore in the global map." GRUMO (IT) GRUMO (“Clot”, “Gore”) is a grindcore band formed in 2004 in Modena (Italy), when Riki (vocals) and Nico (drums) got together. At the beginning, the sound was inspired by bands like Anal Cunt and early Cripple Bastards, with tracks often under 40 sec. The purpose was to play pure noisecore. During the years, the band has played many gigs and festivals (Porco Dio Fest, September to Dismember 3th, Roma A-Bestial Fest), supporting both Italian (Cripple Bastards, Dysmorfic, Repulsione, Jesus Ain’t in Poland…) and international bands (Holocausto Canibal, D-Compose, Sakatat, Social Chaos, Yack, Captain Cleanoff, Sete Star Sept). Although the first 8 years were characterized by few line-up changes, 2012 marked a significant turning point: the first record, Voglio Vederti Sprofondare (“I Want to See You Sink”), was released through independent labels and a new guitarist (Simmi) and a new bass player (Marco) joined the band. Grumo finally find a more personal sound and plays grindcore combined with elements of death metal. Furthermore, a split with Ebola was released on 7”. After two years of hard work "Fallimento" is out in October 2015, the 2nd official full leght of the band and the first to be released by a single label: ETN Records from italy. With this new effort the band is ready to let itself known outside of its national boundary (european tour in September 2015) , faithfulness to its underground origins, spreading desease and noise as usual! Sono il risultato di un'ossessione per Mick Jones (il migliore dei Clash) e di uno sguardo troppo prolungato sui Rude Boys. Se Tony Manero e Richard Ashcroft si scontrassero camminando a testa alta senza voler cedere il passo, e poi finissero per baciarsi con passione, quello sarebbe il suono degli Spiritual Cramp. Ma se chiedi direttamente alla band, si descriveranno semplicemente come un gruppo punk. La loro musica? «Accordi veloci in giù. Upstrokes. Reggae. Produzione hip hop. Live show esplosivo. Ferocia, ma contenuta, su amplificatori piccoli». E tutto questo suona giusto, specialmente quando citano come influenze Tom Tom Club e The Strokes. Perché se c'è una cosa certa, è che gli Spiritual Cramp sono una dance band. Come lo erano The Clash, Big Audio Dynamite, i primi Kaiser Chiefs, Turnstile e Murder City Devils. Dal 2016 gli Spiritual Cramp hanno riportato in auge i cori gang-style e le impennate sui motorini nei parcheggi. Il loro album omonimo dà nuova linfa a quella tradizione di rock & roll sporco e sincero che parte dai The Standells, passa per il punk del '77 e arriva fino a Supergrass, Algiers e Chubby and The Gang. Gli Spiritual Cramp sono Michael Bingham (voce), Michael Fenton (basso), Jose Luna (percussioni), Jacob Breeze e Nate Punty (chitarre), Julian Smith (batteria). GIOVEDI 12 Ingresso: Up to You!/// Riservato ai soci AICS GREEN MILK FROM THE PLANET ORANGE (JP) GREEN MILK FROM THE PLANET ORANGE are from Tokyo, formed in 2001 after the breakup of the grindcore band 'No Rest For The Dead'. Searching for new musical horizons 'A' (drums) and 'Dead K' (guitar, vocals) went different ways for a while but came together again to build up a new band. 'Benjian' (bass) completed the first classic trio line-up which then was into jam sessions musically oriented at playing progressive rock with the emphasis on psychedelic and space. The band released the 7'' production 'The Shape Of Rock To Come' (2001) and the full album 'Birth Of The Neo Trip' (2002) on their own label Ancient Records representing a special blend of space and jazz rock. This received good reviews from Japanese and American magazines. 2003 saw bassist 'Benjian' replaced by 'T'. The same year they went to USA to produce a new album but the work could not be completed. So they kept recording for themselves after going back to Tokyo. Finally it was finished at the end of June containing five well-elaborated songs. 'He's Crying Look' got to be the first album for Beta-lactam Ring Records - released in 2004 on compact disc as well as on double vinyl. The band continued touring USA/Canada for several times and produced the next full album 'City Calls Revolution' - released end of May 2005. As for the next year two new EPs saw the light of day before they lost bass player 'T' in 2007. GMFTTO went to sleep then for an indefinite period only interrupted by the official announcement that new band mate 'Margarette H' was found in the summer of 2008. GREEN MILK FROM THE PLANET ORANGE offers excellent space and heavy psychedelic rock and can be rated on the same level as other Japanese acts like 'Acid Mothers Temple' and 'Flower Travelin' Band'. LOVE GANG (US) Love Gang is a rock ’n roll band based out of Denver, Colorado. Formed in 2015, Love Gang is a throwback to the golden days of rock ’n roll when the amps were loud, the hair was long and the drugs were cheap. Influenced by the obscure and underground rock of the 70s, they manage to keep their sound classic and true while also creating original, compelling songs that don’t grow tired or sound as if you’ve heard it all before. Love Gang likes to play fast, high energy songs full of driving blues boogie, wailing psychedelic guitar solos and crunchy hammond organ.

Chris Abrahams (piano), Tony Buck (drums), and Lloyd Swanton (bass) conjure a chemistry together that defies description in orthodox terms. Featuring lengthy pieces which slowly unravel in the most mesmerising fashion, frequently underpinned by an insistent deep groove, the eighteen albums by The Necks stand up to re-listening time and time again. The deceptive simplicity of their music throws forth new charms on each hearing. Not entirely avant-garde, nor minimalist, nor ambient, nor jazz, the music of The Necks is possibly unique in the world today. UZEDA (IT) Uzeda is an Italian quartet (Giovanna Cacciola on vocals, Raffaele Gulisano on bass, Davide Oliveri on drums, Agostino Tilotta on guitar) that represents one of the most original takes on noise-rock of the 1990s. Out of Colours (A.V. Arts, 1991), Waters (A.V. Arts, 1993) and the four-song EP 4 (Touch and Go, 1995) slowly cemented a style that is both brutal and lyrical, fierce and mercyful, physical and psychological, but never derivative of the American masters of noise-rock. After 13 years from the last releases, the band with the beloved friend Steve Albini recorded Quocumque Jeceris Stabit released through Overdrive in EU and Temporary Residence in USA. JOHN DUNCAN (US) & IVAN FU PJEVCEVIC (SRB/IT) John Duncan's work often addresses issues of power, authority, and control, often involving elements of personal risk and danger. His early works included confrontational performances, public interventions and a number of audio works, many of which incorporated found sounds, shortwave radio signals and field recordings. Over the years, his work has become increasingly focused on spirituality, ritual, and the subconscious mind. Ivan FU Pjevcevic is a musician, composer graphic artist and audio engineer known for his contributions to experimental and electroacoustic music, often collaborating with avant-garde artists such as John Duncan, playing a significant role in the albums 3NDLSS, Soft Eyes and Lucid Calm, performing on fretless bass, synths and Ondes Martenot. John Duncan and Ivan FU are presenting for the first time in Europe a preview of their short film DIG. A visual story written in six chapters accompanied by a live soundtrack. Although the band’s members met while attending all-ages shows in and around Washington, D.C.’s punk/indie scene, the trio draws more of its sound from such classic rock legends as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath. The trio formed in the fall of 1998 with singer/guitarist Simon, bassist Steve Kille, and drummer Mark Laughlin. The three members set out to fuse their love of early-’70s hard rock and ’60s psychedelia into their distinct sound. They released their eight song debut album in 1999. Within a relatively short period, the D.C. trio received offers to tour with everyone from local D.C. acts like The Make-Up and Fugazi to psychedelic rockers Brian Jonestown Massacre. The much acclaimed debut was quickly followed by 2001’s “Howls from the Hills”, recorded at friend Stephen McCarty’s (who would later join Dead Meadow) grandparent’s farm house in rural Indiana and also released on Tolotta Records. The band signed with Matador Records in early 2003 and released “Shivering King and Others”. Along with the heavy feel and blues-influenced songs, as found on the previous two records, the band incorporated a more layered and dense sound, and continued in their psychedelic style. With the addition of long time friend Cory Shane as second guitarist, the band released the much acclaimed “Feathers” LP in 2005 on Matador Records. This record incorporated the heavy sound of Dead Meadow with a somewhat more dreamlike feel and included a great deal of two guitar interplay between Cory and Jason. 2007 saw the band reverting back to a three piece and relocating from Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles, CA. “Old Growth”, the fifth studio album was released in 2008 on Matador Records. In 2010 Dead Meadow released a feature length live film and soundtrack, “Three Kings”, that spotlighted their live show and included psychedelic dream sequences that follow a loose storyline. Stephen McCarty left the band and original drummer Mark Laughlin returned. The group spent a long, patient time self-producing and recording 2013’s epic double-album-length release “Warble Womb”, also released on Xemu records. With the release of the LP “The Nothing they Need” in 2018, Steve and Jason celebrate twenty years of Dead Meadow with eight songs that feature everyone that has been musically involved with the band over the years. The Lockdown of 2020 gave the band some much needed rest from touring though two live records were released. Throughout 2023 Dead Meadow performed sporadically and began work on a new full length LP for Heavy Psych Sounds Records. The band completed tracking the record in January of 2024 shortly after finding out the terrible news that bass player Steve Kille had been diagnosed with Cancer. Though he began Chemo within a month or so the cancer had progressed too far and was too aggressive to be stopped. Steve Kille passed away on April 14th, 2024 leaving an incredible legacy of utterly unique bass playing, a singular artistic vision, and boundless creativity. Band members, friends, and fans alike were devastated but the outpouring of love for Steve as a musician, friend, and amazing human being was a beautiful thing to see. SOLARIS (IT) I Solaris, band noise rock nata nel 2015 in Romagna, mescolano noise e post-rock con influenze da Helmet e The Jesus Lizard. Their recent endeavors, including the long-awaited release of 'Illuminated 1989' and their continued exploration of vibrant sonic landscapes, reaffirm their status as pioneers in the genre. The Veldt's enduring legacy promises to inspire future generations with their boundary-pushing sounds and unwavering artistic vision as they forge ahead. TREMOURS (US) TREMOURS formed in Los Angeles in 2021 by the duo of Lauren Andino and Glenn Fryatt. Late night jam sessions in the midst of lockdown uncertainty slowly transformed into TREMOURS creative partnership, driven by the tension between Andino’s hazy, drifting guitars and Fryatt’s urgent, pulsating drums. South Carolina-born Andino has played with LSD And The Search For God and most recently L.A. Witch as a touring guitarist. Fryatt hails from Portsmouth, England, and has toured as a drummer for artists such as Cherubs, The Montrose Avenue and Ten Benson. TREMOURS sees them each newly harnessing and exploring their own creative impulses, inspired by everything from shoegaze to jazz to electronica to literature to looking out at the sea. “Most of our songs center around loneliness. Not necessarily sadness, but the comfort that you can find in being lonely,” says Andino. “It’s when I feel most calm.” Fragments is the much-anticipated debut album from Los Angeles based shoegaze dreampop duo. Solidarity now. Clas war now. Formed in 2018 by Ryan Neighbors (Guitar/vocals), Morty(bas),and Bim Ditson (drums), the members of HELP spent the previous decade or so in more restrained bands. Ditson with grinding indie rockers AndAndAnd, Neighbors with alt-pop dynamos Portugal. The Man and with his electronic project Hustle and Drone. And Morty, Morty has been around the track once or twice. With Help, they are retrieving the punk roots each member had put down in their teens. They are ripping these ams back open to see what’s really inside. “Everyone is angry,” says Neighbors, “Make some art about it.”

Forging songs from fuzzwar tones and analogue frequencies, their reverence for the mechanistic sounds of the 70’s always present aside a love for what was reimagined through the 90’s and into the 00’s. Continuing the nuances and simplicities of all good pop music, whilst adhering to the world of soundtrack obscurities and beyond. Taking notes from influences John Cale, Stereolab, and The BBC Radiophonic Workshop - their live show is an ever evolving shift of creative energy. Enveloping halls and ballrooms with cello and overdriven violin, or in clubs and bandrooms with saxophone and blown out riffs. The thread between static intensity and agile restraint taut from start to fin. Their latest album, With Gusto, released through Flightless Records (King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, Amyl and The Sniffers), was named Album of the Week by both 3RRR and 4ZZZ and was featured in Henry Rollins' top 11 albums of 2022 on KCRW. Following With Gusto, they released Open Field in 2024. Written and intended as a three part odyssey, these seven minutes and fifty one seconds traverse through the sounds of a band who keep conviction as their touchstone. Taking notes from the Düsseldorf and Berlin schools of the 70’s, these drifting melodies and mechanistic rhythms hold court alongside the climactic intensity of a group forged by the 00’s New York underground. KK (IT) Okra Kitchen (OkK) è un duo musicale nato nel 2014 con Emanuele alla batteria e Luigi a chitarra e voce. Il progetto rimane in fase embrionale per anni finché i due non lo riprendono in periodo COVID. Nel 2022 entrano in studio a registrare 9 canzoni che vengono divise in tre uscite VOL 1 e VOL 2 nel 2023 e VOL 3 in uscita ad aprile 2025. Il genere è un punk fatto di batterie taglienti, riffoni distorti e molto feedback. OSAMA (IT) VENERDI 23 Ingresso: 5 € Riservato ai soci AICS COWARDS Cowards è un progetto marchigiano di matrice noise/shoegaze/post-punk formatosi nel 2019 a Recanati dall’incontro di Luca Piccinini (voce e chitarra), Giulia Tanoni (voce e basso) e Peppe Carella (batteria). Li caratterizza fin da subito un sound abrasivo figlio degli anni ‘90, con echi dream-pop e grunge che lo rendono profondo e personale. Il loro percorso è indelebilmente macchiato dalla prematura scomparsa del batterista e ad inizio 2023 viene arruolato il nuovo batterista Michele Prosperi, compagno di merende musicali ed ex Jesus Franco & The Drogas, con il quale sviluppano rapidamente quell’intesa che li porta alla pubblicazione del loro album ufficiale God Hates Cowards nel febbraio 2025 per l’etichetta Bloody Sound. Dio, uno qualsiasi, odia i codardi e li butta nella tempesta. Loro rispondono! DONIA NO Nine Inch Nails, The Soft Moon, Fever Ray, Bones UK, Subsonica e molti altri sono tra le varie influenze che Donı̈ a riporta nel suo sound, caratterizzato da elettronica e suoni distorti, voci pulite e sporche che si alternano, urla e melodie eteree. Le atmosfere dark sono onnipresenti e i synth e le chitarre che li producono, creano un immaginario inquietante ma allo stesso tempo magnetico. Donı̈ a trasla la sua ombrosità e la sua rabbia in musica facendo un esorcismo collettivo e di sé: la paura della morte, le pressioni sociali e il femminismo sono alcune delle tematiche ricorrenti dei suoi brani. Quella di Donı̈ a è musica per alleggerire il peso dell’ansia post-moderna, prenderne atto e, in fin dei conti, ballarci su. Born from the emerging British punk scene, they progressed from art students with no musical skills to the prolific, raucous progeny of Hank Williams. This current classic line-up has remained intact since the mid-1980s, continuing to regularly tour and release new music through to now. Theirs is an improbable history – a surprising and influential embrace of folk and country music with occasional forays into the art world. They have always worked collaboratively and collectively with all work credited to the band, never to individuals. Their mind-boggling output consistently blurs the lines between high art and low and has included exhibitions in the UK and US, a deranged pirate musical recorded and staged with Kathy Acker, an art performance with Vito Acconci, and several books including the unique art catalog/unfinished novel Mekons United. "Revenge of the Mekons", a documentary about the band received nationwide release in 2015 on Music Box Films. The Mekons continue to make bold, unpredictable music while staying true to the punk ethos. Out of Colours (A.V. Arts, 1991), Waters (A.V. SIX ORGANS OF ADMITTANCE (US) Once again, Six Organs of Admittance showcases the intricate tangle of fingers on the fretboard and flash of lens flare slicing the air, as the future arcs 360 degrees around to become a part of the past as well. Oscillations in this glass bowl ripple outward eternally, but are rooted on the ground where all the creatures are moving and communing; humans too. A first single of the band was self-produced and distributed by independent labels in Italy, Greece and Spain, with acclaimed review in specialized magazines, including Shindigs! in the UK and Rumore in Italy. The band is now working into recording the many original songs they developed through time for a future dedicated Long-Playing record. La sua carriera musicale nasce dal writing e dal freestyle, evolvendosi nel tempo grazie all'esperienza tra sound system e collaborazioni con il collettivo P.S.A.L.M. And the story of the new incarnation of Sum Of R, the project that Reto Mäder formed in 2007 and has led as the only fixed member ever since, began with some really good news, and then some really bad news, because you never know where magic is going to come from. 2020, remember that? Before the world went weird, Sum Of R were supposed to tour (remember that, too?), a trek which included a much distinguished Roadburn appearance. The line-up for the tour was already set to be a duo, with Reto joining forces with drummer Jukka Rämänen, known for his presence in such luminaries of the groundbreaking Finnish psych scene as Dark Buddha Rising, Atomikylä or the supergroup Waste Of Space Orchestra (Oranssi Pazuzu & Dark Buddha Rising), not to mention Hexvessel and Dust Mountain. A power duo, in the true sense of the word. Because Roadburn is special, Reto thought about having a guest singer for that particular performance, and once you already have a connection established with the mighty Dark Buddha Rising – a connection first established on the joint Dark Buddha Rising / Sum Of R tour of 2018, by the way –, why look further? Enter vocalist Marko Neuman (also of Convocation and, naturally, the all-consuming Waste Of Space Orchestra), who would make them a remarkable and unlikely trio just for that evening. Then, as we know, the world changed, and both the tour and Roadburn itself didn’t happen. In one of the best examples of there being a silver lining to almost every bad situation, Reto tried to make something positive of the situation and booked the first possible flight after the first lockdown in his native Switzerland to travel to Finland for three weeks of studio recording with the line-up that never was, Jukka and Marko. And boom: magic happened. As Reto puts it, “we had such a good and intense as wellas grateful and creative time together that it could not be more natural that Marko alsobecame a part of Sum Of R through these common experiences. For Jukka and me, Marko's voice is like a transmitter to another dimension." But be careful, you never know what can enter through an open window! Swiss-Finnish trio Ural Umbo with Reto Mäder (Sum Of R, JeGong, RM74), Marko Neuman (Sum Of R, Dark Buddha Rising, Waste Of Space Orchestra, Convocation) and Jukka Rämänen (Sum Of R, Dark Buddha Rising, Waste Of Space Orchestra, Hexvessel, Dust Mountain) can't hide their penchant for the modern aesthetics of ritual doom, experimental black metal and 70's synth drone. Following horror movie soundtracks like Mandy, Beyond The Black Rainbow and Suspiria (1977) they mingle with a wide range of instruments: down-tuned piano, analog synthesizers, bass, organ, electronics, drums and percussion. Added to this are ritualistic and disembodied vocals in the form of a spitting, screaming, pleading and crying medium that slowly weaves its way through dark melodies, epic drones, multiple feedback doom mantras and a generally dominant psychedelic atmosphere in order to gain entry. The environment withers in the face of systemic neglect. Interpersonal relationships fall apart among divisive discourse. However, friendship endures in spite of all that tragedy and trauma… The story of Human Impact really begins with the mutual respect and admiration shared by four noise rock pioneers whose paths circled for nearly three decades, yet finally converged in 2018. The quartet—vocalist and guitarist Chris Spencer [Unsane], bassist Chris Pravdica [Swans, Xiu Xiu], keyboardist Jim Coleman [Cop Shoot Cop], and drummer Phil Puleo [Cop Shoot Cop, Swans]—manifest the potential of this union on their 2020 self-titled debut, Human Impact [Ipecac Records]. Underpinned by guitar grind, industrial buzz, and unnervingly catchy vocal transmissions, these ten tracks ebb flow between intense instrumental insurgency and hypnotic harmonies. “It works, because of the friendship and connection,” exclaims Coleman. “The band is surprisingly free of ego. We’re all old enough that we’ve been beaten up by making music and living life in general. We’ve been through it all. So, our approach is humble. There’s room for input from everybody. At the same time, we ended up with a record that’s uncompromising and very much of the time in terms of how it sounds and addresses the world socially, politically, and emotionally.” “Even though a lot of the subject matter could be perceived as negative, the energy is hopeful in a way,” adds Spencer. “Everything might be collapsing, but we put positivity out there.” The seeds would be planted for Human Impact in the Lower East Side where Coleman recalls “getting in trouble together with Chris during the late eighties.” A few years later, Unsane and Cop Shoot Cop shared a rehearsal space on Avenue B. Around the same time, Coleman and Spencer commenced conversations about eventually making music together. However, those conversations didn’t formally pick up until much later when Coleman attended an Unsane gig in the summer of 2018… “Jim came up to me and was like, ‘Do you still have any interest in working together?’,” recalls Spencer. “I had been doing Unsane for 30 years, and I was ready to do something else in general. Jim just happened to approach me at the right time. We started writing together shortly after.” Following two more tours with Unsane, Spencer finally focused all of his energy on what would become Human Impact. Coleman invited Puleo into the fold, and Pravdica would be the final piece of the puzzle. As with most one-man black metal/noise projects/bands/outfits/etc., Gnaw Their Tongues' output over the next two-plus years was prolific and extensive, including a large number of EPs, a few splits, and full-lengths. The post-rock powerhouse known as AND SO I WATCH YOU FROM AFAR have returned with their 7th studio album, ‘Megafauna’. A tribute to the two places the collective call home, their beloved Portrush on the Irish North Coast and the beating heart that is Belfast; ‘ Megafauna’ is headstrong exploration and heartfelt appreciation with all the intuition, intimacy and humour of four firm friends approaching their 20th year as a band. Like so many other bands and creatives throughout the pandemic, ASIWYFA found themselves suddenly stationary, with any plans outside of their immediate vicinity put on indefinite hold. However, where this might have seen other acts falter, ASIWYFA took comfort in their communal bond and, as soon as they were able, began writing a record that quickly became a love letter to the communities they call home. “‘Megafauna’ is essentially a distilled moniker for our peers,” says guitarist Rory Friers, “all of the friends and characters that we’ve grown up with who’ve made us and our homes what they are today. Lockdown was an intensely introspective and reflective process, which put the comfort of community at the forefront of our minds.” The intent behind ‘Megafauna’ is clear from the outset. Two guitars, bass and drums all recorded in a week erupt into effervescent life in an endorphin rush of collaboration and togetherness after the physical and psychological wilderness of isolation. Lead single ‘Do Mór’ is a preposterously playful collision of light-hearted guitar hooks, effortless jazz syncopation and the triumphant return of ASIWYFA’s inimitable wall-of-sound distortion, whilst opening track ‘North Coast Megafauna’ serves as an anthem for the whole album and perhaps for a band reinvigorated too; proudly wearing the joyously jarring confrontation of their sound on their sleeves. Elsewhere on ‘Megafauna’, introspection and sombre sentimentality take centre stage with the downtempo ‘Years Ago’ providing remarkable dynamic depth that speaks to a band approaching two decades together whilst the moments of calm on ‘Button Days’ are interspersed with cacophonous blasts reminiscent of the unbridled energy on ASIWYFA’s earliest material. ‘Megafauna’ is the band’s first new music since 2022’s critically-acclaimed ‘Jettison’, an ambitious multi-media ensemble piece packed full of experimentation and collaboration. Jokingly referring to ‘Jettison’ as the band’s “mature record”, guitarist Niall Kennedy frames the writing of ‘Megafauna’ around the band’s long-running mantra of ‘DO THE SCARY THING’ which sees them constantly hurtling towards newness, towards progress, evolution and the unknown. SCALER (UK) Based in Bristol, UK, SCALER are a four-piece band: Isaac Jones on drums, James Rushforth on bass guitar, Nick Berthoud on guitar and Alex Hill on electronics. For the last five years, SCALER have been writing, recording and performing music together, trying to answer the question that guides their work; “How can a band bridge the gap between live guitar music and live electronic music?” ROBOCOBRA QUARTET (IRL) Experimentation is at the core of Robocobra Quartet, whether it be in the fluid line-up (six musicians tagging in and out to make up the live touring quartet) or in their unique self-produced records made in their hometown of Belfast, Northern Ireland. These juxtapositions are just the beginning of the complex world of Robocobra Quartet - a band serious about their music but humorous in their approach, including members with no musical training alongside members with music conservatoire pedigree. The result is a collective of musicians inspired by Stravinsky and Dead Kennedys in equal measures. On stage, the band are protons and electrons circling drummer-vocalist Chris W Ryan; meticulous arrangements and on-the-spot improvisations hang on every word spoken, sung and shouted by Ryan. The playtime of these eleven tracks on the other hand is just over an hour, what implies that the specific Bohren-Vibe of savoring sublime slowness is able to be established within a very short time. The album opener of “Patchouli Blue” (2020) “Total falsch” is an ideal kickoff and implicates the exact opposite of what the title promises. Typical Bohren. Depending on the character of the listener it might take two, sometimes four notes or even two minutes to indicate: You are on Bohren terrain, now is the time to revenge everything! The use of the organ already makes you go down on your knees and the upcoming saxophone directs the careful developed tension onto the landscape, where one no longer can exclude an encounter with Jan Garbarek. But there are more surprises following. Not to be expected, for example, is a song like “Deine Kusine” which radiates with lightness. Or right after that „Vergessen und vorbei” which, with its rhythm machine and analog synthesizer, that sounds like a soundtrack to the John Carpenter movie, that he forgot to shoot. If you ask the band “Patchouli Blue” suits the mixing ratio of four parts “typical Bohren”, three parts “weird” and four parts “jazz sneak”. As a bonus exists the shadow of a story behind the order of song titles, that you can make up yourself, depending on your temperament. Bohren never had a title track before. “Patchouli Blue” points back to india stores in the 1970s with their heavy scents. After releasing a 3-songs demo in 2005 and a split with the american act Embrace The End in 2006, T.E.O.S.T.Y. quickly gain a cult status in the underground scene publishing “Isolation” (2008), flawlessly blending swedish death metal, black metal, crust and post rock influences. In 2012 comes the second effort “Perpetuum”, a darker and more atmospheric approach to their trademark sound. 2013 sets off the beginning of a nearly 10 years long hiatus. In 2020 the band slowly starts over with a new line up consisting of 3 founding members with the addition of Michele Basso ( VISCERA/// , Formalist , Hypershape Records ) and Gianmaria Mustillo ( HIEROPHANT, Carnero, Abaton) both taking care of the vacant guitars duty. The revamped line up brings forth a new EP consisting of 3 songs as well as a cover of the influential american noise band Today Is The Day. T.E.O.S.T.Y.’s latest opus sounds rawer, more aggressive and dissonant than ever. It’s in this rarefied air where you’ll find Detroit’s Apollo Brown, constantly conjuring fresh innovations out of a tried-and-true formula. For the last decade, the artist has singularly re-defined and expanded the foundation of what boom bap production can sound like in the 21st Century. Originally from Grand Rapids in West Michigan, Apollo Brown is a hip-hop producer based in Detroit. In the tradition of left-field beatmakers like the great J Dilla and Madlib, Brown is a man of many influences, with a sound that owes as much to the yacht rock of Seals & Crofts as it does to classic R&B, pulling from all corners of the music world to craft beats that are as interesting musically as they are rhythmically.
